Conference Location and Lodging

As in past years, the conference will once again be held in El Rito, New Mexico at Cutting Hall on the El Rito Campus of Northern New Mexico College, also known as the “El Rito Heritage Retreat Center”. The Center has a cafeteria and a limited number of dorm rooms and suites available at very reasonable prices.

Important facts about the El Rito Heritage Retreat Center:

  • Alcohol is prohibited on campus.
  • No pets are allowed on campus.
  • Wireless internet access and cell phone service are available, but only in select locations on campus.
  • The Retreat Center has a small library and student center where computers and internet access are available.

Important facts about the town of El Rito:

  • The closest ATM is in Abiquiu at Bode’s Store which closes at 8 pm.
  • There is one small restaurant in town: “El Farolito” open Tuesday to Sunday 11am to 8pm
  • There are two local food markets with the very basics in selection which close at 6 pm.
  • Computer and internet access are available at El Rito’s Public Library.

Lodging Option 1: El Rito Campus of Northern New Mexico College

The college has 46 dormitory-style rooms with approximately 90 beds. There are 18 rooms with a private bath and (2) twin beds. Some rooms are outfitted with queen-sized beds. Due to the limited number of rooms available on campus to conference participants, we encourage guests to be open to the idea of sharing rooms with other guests to maximize the use of the facilities. The campus rooms fill up early so please make your reservations well in advance of the conference. The El Rito Campus has put together special package deals for the weekend of the conference. The rates are as follows:

  • 3-day communal bath package - twin bed, community bath, check in Thursday May 14th, 2009 after 5pm, check out Sunday May 17th, 2009 by 12 noon, includes dinner on the 14th, B,L,D on the 15th and 16th and breakfast on the 17th - $180.00 for entire package
  • 3-day private bath package - twin bed, private bath, check in Thursday May 14th, 2009 after 5pm, check out Sunday May 17th, 2009 by 12 noon, includes dinner on the 14th, B,L,D on the 15th and 16th and breakfast on the 17th - $252.00 for entire package

For guests not purchasing the 3-day package deals, rooms and meals can also be booked individually. The rates are as follows:

  • rooms with communal bath - $36.00 per person per night
  • rooms with private bath - $60.00 per person per night
  • breakfast, lunch & dinner meal package - $24.00 per person per day

Individual meals can also be purchased in the cafeteria.

The campus also offers a limited number of RV spots for visitors to the conference. Prices are $10 a night with a three night minimum stay. Tent camping will also be available for free in the park in front of the main campus buildings. Dormitory showers on the El Rito campus will be available to conference participants who use the free on-campus camping service. The El Rito Heritage and Retreat Center will be handling all dormitory room reservations directly for the AdobeUSA 2009 conference.

The El Rito Campus accepts credit cards (Visa, Mastercard and Discover), traveler’s checks and personal checks.

Lodging Option 2: Off-Campus Camping

Starting about nine miles north of El Rito on Canyon Road are some of the most beautiful camping grounds in New Mexico, situated right next to the El Rito Creek. There are no reservations or fees required for these sites as they are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Off-campus RV spots and camping are also available at the Abiquiu Dam - Riana Campground (505-685 4561) which is 40 minutes from El Rito. It has spectacular views!
